The following information will guide you to Bristol and the conference venue:

By car

The M4 and M5 motorways put both London and Birmingham within a two-hour drive, while the M32 allows direct access from the M4 to the heart of the city.

Directions to the University precinct from the M32 (also available as a Google Map)

• Exit the M4 at junction 19 marked for the M32
• Follow the M32 southwest into Bristol
• Continue onto the A4032
• Continue straight onto Bond Street / A4044
• At St. James Barton roundabout, take the 2nd exit onto Marlborough Street / B4051
• Continue to follow B4051
• Turn right at Woodland Road
• At the top of the hill is a crossroads. Turn right into Tyndall Avenue
• Senate House (the University's central administration building) is the tall building on the corner

There are multistorey car parks about ten minutes' walk from the main precinct as shown on our precinct map or you can consult Bristol City Council's car park finder.

By coach

Coaches from a range of UK cities arrive and depart from Bristol Bus and Coach Station on Marlborough Street in the centre of Bristol, about 15 minutes walk from the University precinct (PDF, 3.5Mb).

For information about coach times and fares, consult the National Express website. Additional coach services are operated by Megabus and Bakers Dolphin.

By plane

Bristol Airport is 13 km south of the city and has scheduled flights to many UK and European cities. To get to the University from the airport:

• The Bristol Flyer coach service calls at Bristol Bus and Coach Station near the University precinct
• Checker Cars offer taxis from Bristol Airport. The journey should take around 30 minutes

London (Heathrow Airport, Gatwick Airport)

Bristol is only about 2 hours from London by train. There's a train about every hour, with extra weekday evening peak services from London, and it's not too expensive to get there.

You can get a saver ticket for £60 on the day of travel, or for as little as £20.00 if you book a couple of weeks in advance. Tickets are released three months in advance.

London is two hours away by coach and is served by a half a dozen services per day, Heathrow Airport /Gatwick Airport to Bristol.

Direct train services run between Bristol Temple Meads Station and Heathrow Airport operated by First Great Western..

• Coach/ Bus:

National express provides coach/ bus service all over UK. Coaches’ times and fares are available on the website.

Megabus operates a network across the U.K. There are two buses daily from London to Bristol.

By train

Bristol has two mainline railway stations. Visitors should travel to Bristol Temple Meads as it is about two miles from the University and is much closer than Bristol Parkway.

To get to the University from Bristol Temple Meads:

• The 8 and 9 bus services run every ten minutes in peak time and stop on the University precinct. The journey should take about 20 minutes
• Taxis are available from the exit to the station. The journey should take about 15 minutes
• Walking from Bristol Temple Meads (PDF, 3.5Mb) to the University takes 30-40 minutes and will involve an uphill climb.

The nearest suburban railway station to the University is Clifton Down, but services only run about once an hour.
